Russophobia Vulgaris: A la Lietuva

The historical Western policy of „Russophobia Vulgaris“, which is currently promulgated by the British Cabinet of Theresa May, is nothing new. It was originally started by the British Empire in the XIX century, followed up by the US after the WWII and now, as Russia it getting notably reinforced, is escalated in the form of the “New Cold War”. The Russian exodus from the West (diplomatic only yet), presented as a punishment for Russia’s alleged nerve gas poisoning of a former Russian/MI6 double-agent reminds us of the baiting of Jews in the Middle Age for alleged ‘poisoning of wells‘.

We have to remember that Administration of Pres. Truman (1945-53) originally started the Cold War using the myth of “Soviet expansionism” to mask its own aggressive foreign policy focused on promotion of global political and economic agenda of the West. The current Western virus of “Russophobia Vulgaris” was replanted despite Soviet Union and Communist ideology were disbanded in 1989−1991.

The carriers of this virus are not only military professionals, politicians and media warriors on a payroll, but Western academic institutions as well. Lithuania is one example where an academic institution prioritizes political aims to the scientific values and even moral norms.

As I lived and worked in Lithuania (a minor member state of NATO and EU since 2004) for the last twenty years as a lecturer at several universities, I can confirm that Russophobia dominated in the academic culture of this country. The latest case of my personal experience is a regretful proof of that.

To make a long story short, it is a traditional practice at my current job-institution – Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) in Vilnius, to commemorate victims of all notable human catastrophes, like terror acts, traffic accidents or natural disasters, but with only under one exception: they never sympathize with the Russians. In other words, the university’s authorities, according to my knowledge, never officially commemorated any catastrophe with the Russian victims. However, as it is known, the recent (March 25th) catastrophe in the Siberian city of Kemerovo, when 64 persons died, among whom half were children was probably one of the most terrible ones that happened in Russia in XXI century. Personally, I was really expecting at least a kind of an official (and above all human) reaction by my university’s authorities to this catastrophe according to the previous similar examples elsewhere, a simple note of condolences on university’s website. Unfortunately, after several days I understood that it was not going to happen (for a quite known reason). Twice I tried to approached a responsible MRU person (Vaidotas Norkus) via email to publish the official university’s condolence to Kemerovo victims only to be rejected without any kind of explanation why.

The same days I offered him my fresh article on Oriental Review  entitled “Historical Roots of Modern Albanian Imperialism“, as it is a long-time practice by MRU to advertise activities of its academic personals in domestic and international mass media .  To my complete dissatisfaction, I got the answer that my article is not going to be announced as it is published “at a Moscow-based “Fake News” website”! Furthermore, the same authority was extremely dissatisfied that I’m ranked among the Top 5 contributors of Oriental Review!

Hereby, I would like to let the ordinary readers of the alternative media know that the post-Cold War Western „Russophobia Vulgaris“ virus is driving the world towards a new stage of the Cold War even within the framework of the Western-clients’ academic institutions. But should we regard them as academic then?

The Hysterics of Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė
The outbursts of anti-Russian rhetoric of Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė is certainly very bizarre in view of her curriculum vitae. Dalia Grybauskaitė is a very educated woman. Because of the free education system of the former USSR, she was able to complete her university education at the elite Saint Petersburg State University. She became a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1983, some five years before she earned a doctoral degree at the prestigious Academy of Social Sciences in Moscow. It is generally known that not every applicant is routinely accepted to become a Party member. This ...

Oliver Stone’s American History: “We’re not under Threat. We are the Threat”
As he launches his new TV series offering a critical view of US overseas exploits, the film director tells MEE he didn’t always see it that way. American controversies are Oliver Stone’s forte. The Hollywood movie director has turned his cameras on the assassination of John F Kennedy, the Vietnam War and the 9/11 attacks. But, when researching his television series, The Untold History of the United States, it was American exploits in the Middle East that left him with the most lasting impression, he told Middle East Eye on Wednesday. “When I studied the untold history, one thing that really hit me hard was ...

Journey to Aleppo: Exposing the Truth Buried under NATO Propaganda
Aleppo has become synonymous with destruction and “Syrian state-generated” violence among those whose perception of the situation in the war-torn nation is contained within the prism of mainstream media narratives. The NATO-aligned media maintains a tight grip on information coming out of this beleaguered city, ensuring that whatever comes out is tailored to meet State Department requirements and advocacy for regime change. The propaganda mill churns out familiar tales of chemical weapons, siege, starvation, and bombs targeting civilians–all of which are attributed to the Syrian government and military, with little variation on this theme. The purpose of this photo essay and my ...

The Forgotten Postwar US-Nazi Alliance
As the Second World War advanced from its early stages, the United States was assessing which sections of the earth it would hold conquest over. American planners had to remain patient, however. A seemingly endless string of conquests for the Nazis had astonished the world – particularly those in the US – and led to Adolf Hitler being crowned as “the new Napoleon”.In the summer of 1942, under Hitler’s domineering command of the military, the Germans controlled vast swathes of Europe – from Warsaw to Oslo to Paris, and eastwards onto Athens, Kiev and Sevastopol. It was one major victory ...

Why the U.S. is a Major Human Rights Violator
The U.S. State Department annually publishes an extremely biased report on human rights around the world. Conveniently, the report omits one of the most systemic violators of human rights on the planet. Under Donald Trump, the United States has graduated from systemic human rights violator to human rights pariah, as witnessed by recent murders and assaults by police of innocent people on the streets of America. Although the United States has historically been more than willing to criticize the human rights policies of other countries, including in the venue of the United Nations, it has bristled at attempts to have ...

Slave Markets in ‘Liberated’ Libya and the Silence of the Humanitarian Hawks
The reports that black Africans are being sold at slave markets in "liberated" Libya for as little as $400 is a terrible indictment of the so-called "humanitarian intervention" carried out by NATO to topple the government of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.In March 2011 virtue-signaling Western "liberal" hipsters teamed up with hardcore neocon warmongers to demand action to "save" the Libyan people from the "despotic" leader who had ruled the country since the late 1960s. “Something has to be done!” they cried in unison.Something was done. Libya was transformed by NATO from the country with the highest Human Development Index in ...

Nothing Left to Steal in Montenegro

He has served as prime minister or president of various iterations of Montenegro since 1991 – spanning the collapse of Yugoslavia and across and beyond independence of the nation in 2006.What is the secret to Mr Djukanovic’s success? The answer is depressingly predictable: clientelism and the buying – or, depending on your perspective, stealing – of power. The beauty of Montenegro hides this ugly truth. The name of the modern land-locked country north of Greece, with its capital at Skopje, has returned to the news. It is officially called FYROM, but embedded in that name is “Macedonia” which is a reflection of the longstanding attempt to take over the modern Greek province of Macedonia as reflected in maps used in many places, including schools. It is clear that this naming implies territorial ambitions which have long been understood (http://macedonia-evidence.org/documentation.html). If that threat to the stability of the southern Balkans is to be stopped permanently, I suggest that the following must happen:1) the country should be named ...

Many were executed, tortured, died of starvation, buried alive, or were burned to death. Hundreds were forced to become Catholic. Catholic padres ran concentration camps; Catholic priests were officers of the military corps which committed such atrocities. 700,000 in a total population of a few ...
