The main topic of recent publications in the European media has been the discussion of record gas prices. As a result, the population of the European Union countries is facing a real shock threat, and the European industry is approaching a critical point. Gas and electricity prices break new records every day, and some energy-intensive companies are shutting down production because it is becoming too expensive to maintain them. The situation could worsen if the energy crisis goes from a price shock to a deficit, and then more industries would have to make a decisive move by using the switch.
The discussion of rising energy prices was a hot topic at the meeting of EU finance ministers, which began on October 4 in Luxembourg. Against this background, a geographical split has already emerged in the EU: Eastern Europe fears a fuel crisis, while renewable energy sources are becoming more expensive in Western European countries. Northern Europe is calling for a drastic reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. Countries more dependent on fossil fuels fear that energy from renewable sources will also become too expensive.
As The Independent notes, some gas-consuming companies in Europe and Asia have gone bankrupt because of rising prices. Four energy companies in Britain alone have not withstood price rises in recent weeks, and heavy industry is suffering.
British market analyst Bill Blain is confident that Britons will be dying of cold this winter. As energy prices continue to rise, costs will place a disproportionate burden on the poorest members of society. Under these conditions, the problem of income inequality will manifest itself in full, as the most vulnerable citizens will face a stark choice: heat or food. So Britain is likely to be on its knees this winter, begging for energy wherever it can. The situation in Europe will be no better. The Middle East will raise prices as much as it can.
On October 7, one of London’s most prominent think tanks, Capital Economics, presented its research on Europe’s current energy challenges, indicating that natural gas prices in Europe will remain at historic highs over the next year. The extraordinary increase in gas prices increases the likelihood that European governments will be forced to impose restrictive regulations in electricity and natural gas supply to industry and households, leading to marked economic losses in the eurozone economy.
Moreover, millions of European families use natural gas for home heating and cooking. If they do not secure themselves with long-term supply contracts at a fixed price or are not helped by the national authorities, they could face a severe price shock.
In France, the government has already promised a one-time subsidy of 100 euros to 5.8 million low-income households to cover some of the increased energy costs. In Spain, the country’s authorities have announced a reduction in consumer energy prices to 2018 levels. In addition, the government called on the European Commission to “immediately respond to the price hike.”
Europe’s energy price shock could be further exacerbated if Algeria implements a threat to shut down the Algerian gas pipeline to Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Algeria had already announced the pipeline’s closure on October 30 because of the escalating conflict between Algeria and Morocco over Western Sahara, which Morocco claims. After the European Commission stressed the importance of the strategic partnership with Morocco, Algeria threatened to close the gas pipeline through Morocco to Europe.
Amid Europe’s energy crisis, France, Spain, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Greece have proposed an investigation into the causes of the record gas price hike, the five EU countries said in a joint statement released by Bloomberg.
Nurtured in recent years by Washington’s Russophobic propaganda, certain political circles in Europe did not fail to strengthen their unjustified attacks on Russia, accusing it of being responsible for the considerable increases in gas prices in the recent period. Thus, on April 17, 42 non-partisan MPs sent a letter to the European Commission calling for an investigation into suspected price manipulation by Russian Gazprom, which exports gas to Europe. On September 22, State Department’s Senior Advisor for Energy Security Amos Hochstein criticized Russia in a televised interview for refusing to supply gas when there are sufficient reserves.
The other day, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in an interview with Bloomberg, urged Russia not to use energy supplies to promote its foreign policy interests or as a “weapon of its foreign policy.” In doing so, he deliberately failed to mention the considerable role played by the US in aggravation of the energy crisis in Europe, a provocative price policy of Washington in supplying its LNG to the European market. It was using Ukraine, Poland, and other “US minions” to slow down Russia’s construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. If the pipeline had been put into operation, it would have prevented a gas deficit in Europe long ago.
However, all of these regular slanderous Russophobic campaigns have been shattered by the convincing conclusions of several German politicians and international experts. Thus, the International Energy Agency (IEA) published a statement on September 21 in which it commented on the gas price hike and provably refuted fake accusations of Russia. As the Japanese publication Yahoo News Japan emphasizes, all the factors of price increases cited by the IEA are economical, and there is no evidence that Russia’s political or geopolitical intentions are behind supply cuts or price manipulation. On September 22, a representative of the German Economy and Energy Ministry also said that Russia was fulfilling its contractual obligations. German utility Uniper, which buys Russian gas, confirmed on September 22 that it receives gas from Gazprom in accordance with the contract.
It was possible to stop and even reduce the rise in energy prices for Europe only after Russian President Putin became involved in resolving this issue. As Bloomberg admits, “After the Russian president said the other day that Russia is ready to help stabilize global energy markets, Putin is literally saving Europe.”
Therefore, after World War II, history has repeated itself, and once again, Russia is rescuing Europe and Europeans from collapse. Here’s hoping that Europeans will keep this in mind and will not throw themselves, as in the 1950s, “in return” for this into another “cold war” with Russia and a Russophobic information campaign.

Media across the world are literally transfixed by the spectacle of US elections. The Donald Trump-Hillary Clinton, Republicans vs. Democrats battle is captivating enough to distract public attention from other issues.Democracy promotion has been a centerpiece of US foreign policy for over half a century since the days when President Woodrow Wilson crafted a new foreign policy that involved active democracy promotion. The implementation of the «beacon on the hill» concept presupposes that the United States would act as a model of excellence for others to follow is analogous to contemporary soft-power democracy promotion efforts. Lecturing on democracy is a ...
Western culture is clearly obsessed with rules, guilt, submissiveness and punishment.By now it is clear that the West is the least free society on Earth. In North America and Europe, almost everyone is under constant scrutiny: people are spied on, observed, their personal information is being continually extracted, and the surveillance cameras are used indiscriminately.Life is synchronized and managed. There are hardly any surprises. One can sleep with whomever he or she wishes (as long as it is done within the ‘allowed protocol’). Homosexuality and bisexuality are allowed. But that is about all; that is how far ‘freedom’ usually stretches.Rebellion is ...
What is global politics? It is when a white man sends a black man 20.000 km. far away from home to kill a yellow man, while at home this white man is living on the land occupied from a red man From 1989 onward, as a consequence of the dissolution of the bipolar world in global politics, Security Studies as an academic discipline re-born again its political importance. From the very traditional point of view, it was only the national-state to be considered as the reference object of the security issue that was usually to be obtained by military power[1] and diplomatic ...
Twenty years ago, on 24 March 1999, Operation Allied Force began – the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia that led to the country’s dismemberment – and the independent state of Kosovo was proclaimed. Yet these events were far from historically contingent, as some people claim. So who orchestrated the breakup of Yugoslavia and how? These days, few remember that the Bulgarians were at the start of it all. Even the Bulgarians themselves don’t like to think about it.In early March 1999, Bulgaria’s National Intelligence Service told Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service (BND) that it had information about a secret plan by the Yugoslav ...
As recounted in the unjustly neglected German television report “It Began with a Lie,” in April 1999, in the midst of NATO’s illegal bombing campaign against what had remained of Yugoslavia, then German Defense Minister Rudolf Scharping repeatedly accused the Serbian side of installing a Nazi-style “concentration camp” in the soccer stadium in Pristina, the capital of Serbia’s Kosovo and Metohija province. Pressed by the media for proof, Scharping offered “witness testimony” – which he never subsequently produced.A month earlier, just as the bombing had started, Scharping stated that “we never would have taken military action if there weren’t this ...
Milo Djukanovic’s thirty-year-old authoritarian kleptocracy is killing Podgorica's Democratic efforts.Largely unnoticed in the wake of events in the Middle-East and the impeachment drama, another crisis is brewing in the Balkans. In Montenegro, thousands of people have been protesting a new law passed by the Montenegrin parliament and signed into effect by the country’s longtime strongman, Milo Djukanovic, which gives the government authority over properties that religious organizations in the country have been using for at least a century. Evidence of the problems the controversial new law creates can be seen in the widespread condemnation it has received from individuals such ...
In 1990, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, U.S. president George H. W. Bush through his secretary of state James Baker promised Soviet premier Mikhail Gorbachev that in exchange for Soviet cooperation on German reunification, the Cold War era NATO alliance would not expand “one inch” eastwards towards Russia. Baker told Gorbachev: “Look, if you remove your [300,000] troops [from east Germany] and allow unification of Germany in NATO, NATO will not expand one inch to the east.”In the following year, the USSR officially dissolved itself. Its own defensive military alliance (commonly known as the Warsaw Pact) had already ...
It is coming clear these days that many university professors are increasingly fat-cat and lazy, not doing any research once they get tenure. It is a system-wide corruption of the academy, so entrenched that central administrations have only led the corruption in multiplying salaries and offices with no committed function to advancement of learning and dissemination of knowledge – the constitutional and statutory objective of the academy the best are devoted to everywhere. This deep-structural degeneration is not confined to any one place or region. Regular contacts from other universities report a similar decadence. The solution is straightforward, but unspoken: (1) ...
Oligarchs the world over have long been destabilizing economies and shaping governing bodies for their own benefit. For instance, if we turn to the supposed ‘birth of democracy’ in Ancient Athens, elites (called ‘citizens’) of the polis ruled over the mass populace (the common people of the hoi polloi). Plato had instilled in many Greeks at the time (and this is an idea seen in practice from fascist lies of white supremacy to false justifications for criminal wars) a faith in the supremacy of ruling class that the elites could justify lying to the hoi polloi, masking the truth the public ...
The U.S. government’s plan to conquer Russia is based upon a belief in, and the fundamental plan to establish, “Nuclear Primacy” against Russia — an American ability to win a nuclear war against, and so conquer, Russia. This concept became respectable in U.S. academic and governmental policymaking circles when virtually simultaneously in 2006 a short-form and a long-form version of an article endorsing the concept, which the article’s two co-authors there named “nuclear primacy,” were published respectively in the world’s two most influential journals of international affairs, Foreign Affairs from the Council on Foreign Relations, and International Security from Harvard. (CFR got the more popular ...
When it comes to a few key indicators, Ireland, the UK, Canada and even Albania and Greece are surpassing America.America is declining, in large and important measures, yet policymakers aren’t paying attention. So argues a new academic paper, pulling together previously published data.Consider this:America’s child poverty levels are worse than in any developed country anywhere, including Greece, devastated by a euro crisis, and eastern European nations such as Poland, Lithuania and Estonia.Median adult wealth in the US ($39,000) is 27th globally, putting it behind Cyprus, Taiwan, and Ireland.Even when “life satisfaction” is measured, America ranks #12, behind Israel, Sweden and ...
Though intelligence documents from the 1973 coup period have been declassified since 1999, the CIA continues to censor them. The CIA continues to withhold information on its involvement in the Sept. 11, 1973 coup that led to the death of President Salvador Allende in Chile, followed by adeadly dictatorship, according to documents posted Friday by the National Security Archive. In the list of published documents, the section regarding Chile is censored. The President’s Daily Briefs, the intelligence reports given daily to the U.S. president, in particular former President Richard Nixon days before Allende’s death, were among those censored.According to Peter Kornbluh, director ...
Like in Israel, US ruling elites plan for the future strategies and choose presidents to suit the needs. After using a Black President Obama to attack North Africans and Arab nations for their energy resources in order to ensure energy security of the superpower, now the US leaders seem to think of using a female President in the name of Hillary to advance US interests globally.Former US state secretary Hillary Clinton and associates are being pampered by those who are scared of any possible change in US foreign policy towards a possible thaw and neutrality in world affairs, notwithstanding what ...
I am now convinced that the Oligarchy that rules America intends to steal the presidential election. In the past, the oligarchs have not cared which candidate won as the oligarchs owned both. But they do not own Trump. Most likely you are unaware of what Trump is telling people as the media does not report it. A person who speaks like this:- is not endeared to the oligarchs.Who are the oligarchs?— Wall Street and the mega-banks too big to fail and their agent the Federal Reserve, a federal agency that put 5 banks ahead of millions of troubled American homeowners who ...
Armenians and others around the world this month are marking the centennial of the genocide that left hundreds of thousands of Armenians dead early in the last century. The date April 24 is typically picked as the centennial day since it was on that day in 1915 that Turkish authorities rounded up Armenian intellectuals and leaders in Constantinople and murdered them.It was the first step in a much broader slaughter. The Armenian centennial is getting the attention it deserves from sources as diverse as Pope Francis and Kim Kardashian. The Pope courageously used the word “genocide” in a mass this ...
CroatiaMany Croatian schoolchildren know little about crimes committed under the country’s World War II-era fascist regime – but experts claim that the revisionist political environment is more to blame than the education system. The former Jasenovac concentration camp, one of the most important World War II historical sites in the former Yugoslavia, is around 110 kilometres from Croatia’s capital Zagreb - an hour and a half by bus.But no schools in Zagreb sent their pupils on trips to the Jasenovac Memorial Site last year.Out of a total of 909 primary schools in Croatia, only seven of them organised visits for pupils ...
Boundaries of the Banovina districts of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, 1929-1941Regardless of the reached agreement on the Croatian ethnopolitical autonomy in Yugoslavia, the (Roman Catholic) Croatian traditional and historical animosity and even a hate against the (Christian Orthodox) Serbs remained extremely strong – a fact which both Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini knew very well to exploit in the coming events of the 1941 April War against the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.Partition of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1941Originally, Yugoslavia signed the pact with the Axis Powers on March 25th, 1941 but due to the British plot, the military putsch was ...

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius is no ordinary diplomat. He is more a diplomatic hitman whose ideological mission is to blow holes in European-Russian relations at every opportunity. One of his recent “jobs” was to write an op-ed for the Irish Times in which he castigated the European Union for appeasing Russian President Vladimir Putin. Linkevicius used a hoary old historical analogy comparing the EU with British leader Neville Chamberlain and his appeasement in 1938 of Nazi Germany’s Hitler.Apart from the ignorant historical waffling, the other curious thing about Linkevicius’ op-ed piece in Ireland’s so-called “paper of record” was the timing. It was ...
