The main topic of recent publications in the European media has been the discussion of record gas prices. As a result, the population of the European Union countries is facing a real shock threat, and the European industry is approaching a critical point. Gas and electricity prices break new records every day, and some energy-intensive companies are shutting down production because it is becoming too expensive to maintain them. The situation could worsen if the energy crisis goes from a price shock to a deficit, and then more industries would have to make a decisive move by using the switch.
The discussion of rising energy prices was a hot topic at the meeting of EU finance ministers, which began on October 4 in Luxembourg. Against this background, a geographical split has already emerged in the EU: Eastern Europe fears a fuel crisis, while renewable energy sources are becoming more expensive in Western European countries. Northern Europe is calling for a drastic reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. Countries more dependent on fossil fuels fear that energy from renewable sources will also become too expensive.
As The Independent notes, some gas-consuming companies in Europe and Asia have gone bankrupt because of rising prices. Four energy companies in Britain alone have not withstood price rises in recent weeks, and heavy industry is suffering.
British market analyst Bill Blain is confident that Britons will be dying of cold this winter. As energy prices continue to rise, costs will place a disproportionate burden on the poorest members of society. Under these conditions, the problem of income inequality will manifest itself in full, as the most vulnerable citizens will face a stark choice: heat or food. So Britain is likely to be on its knees this winter, begging for energy wherever it can. The situation in Europe will be no better. The Middle East will raise prices as much as it can.
On October 7, one of London’s most prominent think tanks, Capital Economics, presented its research on Europe’s current energy challenges, indicating that natural gas prices in Europe will remain at historic highs over the next year. The extraordinary increase in gas prices increases the likelihood that European governments will be forced to impose restrictive regulations in electricity and natural gas supply to industry and households, leading to marked economic losses in the eurozone economy.
Moreover, millions of European families use natural gas for home heating and cooking. If they do not secure themselves with long-term supply contracts at a fixed price or are not helped by the national authorities, they could face a severe price shock.
In France, the government has already promised a one-time subsidy of 100 euros to 5.8 million low-income households to cover some of the increased energy costs. In Spain, the country’s authorities have announced a reduction in consumer energy prices to 2018 levels. In addition, the government called on the European Commission to “immediately respond to the price hike.”
Europe’s energy price shock could be further exacerbated if Algeria implements a threat to shut down the Algerian gas pipeline to Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Algeria had already announced the pipeline’s closure on October 30 because of the escalating conflict between Algeria and Morocco over Western Sahara, which Morocco claims. After the European Commission stressed the importance of the strategic partnership with Morocco, Algeria threatened to close the gas pipeline through Morocco to Europe.
Amid Europe’s energy crisis, France, Spain, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Greece have proposed an investigation into the causes of the record gas price hike, the five EU countries said in a joint statement released by Bloomberg.
Nurtured in recent years by Washington’s Russophobic propaganda, certain political circles in Europe did not fail to strengthen their unjustified attacks on Russia, accusing it of being responsible for the considerable increases in gas prices in the recent period. Thus, on April 17, 42 non-partisan MPs sent a letter to the European Commission calling for an investigation into suspected price manipulation by Russian Gazprom, which exports gas to Europe. On September 22, State Department’s Senior Advisor for Energy Security Amos Hochstein criticized Russia in a televised interview for refusing to supply gas when there are sufficient reserves.
The other day, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in an interview with Bloomberg, urged Russia not to use energy supplies to promote its foreign policy interests or as a “weapon of its foreign policy.” In doing so, he deliberately failed to mention the considerable role played by the US in aggravation of the energy crisis in Europe, a provocative price policy of Washington in supplying its LNG to the European market. It was using Ukraine, Poland, and other “US minions” to slow down Russia’s construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. If the pipeline had been put into operation, it would have prevented a gas deficit in Europe long ago.
However, all of these regular slanderous Russophobic campaigns have been shattered by the convincing conclusions of several German politicians and international experts. Thus, the International Energy Agency (IEA) published a statement on September 21 in which it commented on the gas price hike and provably refuted fake accusations of Russia. As the Japanese publication Yahoo News Japan emphasizes, all the factors of price increases cited by the IEA are economical, and there is no evidence that Russia’s political or geopolitical intentions are behind supply cuts or price manipulation. On September 22, a representative of the German Economy and Energy Ministry also said that Russia was fulfilling its contractual obligations. German utility Uniper, which buys Russian gas, confirmed on September 22 that it receives gas from Gazprom in accordance with the contract.
It was possible to stop and even reduce the rise in energy prices for Europe only after Russian President Putin became involved in resolving this issue. As Bloomberg admits, “After the Russian president said the other day that Russia is ready to help stabilize global energy markets, Putin is literally saving Europe.”
Therefore, after World War II, history has repeated itself, and once again, Russia is rescuing Europe and Europeans from collapse. Here’s hoping that Europeans will keep this in mind and will not throw themselves, as in the 1950s, “in return” for this into another “cold war” with Russia and a Russophobic information campaign.

The political situation in Turkey is clearly dramatic, but it is also equally complicated. Turkish President Erdogan has succeeded in securing levels of power unique in the nation′s history. But is this situation really unique? No – for 15 years, the father of the nation Ataturk ruled alone over the early Republic, which was a one-party nation at the time. Only his untimely death in 1938 deprived him of that power.Up to that point, Ataturk alone ruled over every conceivable dimension of domestic and foreign policy. Even clothing and music were tailored to his ideas. The aim was the creation ...

The superhighway to disaster is already being paved. From Donald Trump’s first days in office, news of the damage to America’s international stature has come hard and fast. As if guided by some malign design, the new president seemed to identify the key pillars that have supported U.S. global power for the past 70 years and set out to topple each of them in turn. By degrading NATO, alienating Asian allies, cancelling trade treaties, and slashing critical scientific research, the Trump White House is already in the process of demolishing the delicately balanced architecture that has sustained Washington’s world leadership since ...
After the Donald Trump administration’s decision to recognize the disputed city of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the US embassy there from Tel Aviv, the national aspirations of the Palestinian people to live in their own state have been severely dashed by Washington’s move. Ever since the formation of the United States, it has been American policy to destroy aspirant nations like the internationally-recognized State of Palestine. The first nation destroyed by the United States was the Cherokee Nation, or Tsalagihi Ayeli, which, beginning in 1794, was slowly decimated by forced removals from territory in Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Alabama, ...
The Great Powers installed a German army officer, a German Prince William, Wilhelm of Wied, Germany, as the first recognized ruler of an “independent” Albania, a puppet or proxy regime or government set up by the Great Powers. In many ways, the conflict between the Great Powers and Serbia over Albania in 1912-1913 prefigured and foreshadowed and was the precursor of the open conflict over Kosovo beginning in 1998. Albania achieved independence only because Serbia and the other Balkan League powers were able to defeat Ottoman Turkey militarily. The Great Powers immediately established a protectorate in Albania and planned to use ...
Amid a divisive debate in Ukraine on state honors for nationalists viewed as responsible for anti-Semitic pogroms, the country for the first time observed a minute of silence in memory of Symon Petliura, a 1920s statesman blamed for the murder of 50,000 Jewish compatriots. The minute was observed on May 25, the 90th anniversary of Petliura’s assassination in Paris. National television channels interrupted their programs and broadcast the image of a burning candle for 60 seconds, Ukraine’s Federal News Agency reported.A French court acquitted Sholom Schwartzbard, a Russia-born Jew, of the murder even though he admitted to it after the court ...

Canada has a reputation for being a relatively progressive state with universal, single-payer health care, various other social benefits, and strict gun laws, similar to many European countries but quite unlike the United States. It has managed to stay out of some American wars, for example, Vietnam and Iraq, portrayed itself as a neutral “peace keeper”, pursuing a so-called policy of “multilateralism” and attempting from time to time to keep a little independent distance from the United States.Behind this veneer of respectability lies a not so attractive reality of elite inattention to the defence of Canadian independence from the United ...
A now-notorious list of ostensibly “fake” news sites — created by a liberal professor, seemingly out of thin air — spread like wildfire online in the past two days and was eagerly reprinted by corporate media presstitutes hoping to vindicate their own failed reporting on the 2016 election. But branding perfectly legitimate outlets with the same scarlet letter as those devoid of integrity deemed the professor’s list a spurious attempt to defame alternative and independent media — anyone dissenting from the left’s mainstream narrative — as a whole. This is, in no uncertain terms, a hit list — or, at least, a laughable attempt — and ...

Protests against racism sparked by the police killing of George Floyd continue to sweep the globe, including in Belgium, where activists have demanded the removal of statues of King Leopold II, and an acknowledgement of the horrors he inflicted on the Democratic Republic of Congo.Pointing to a statue of King Leopold II, an activist told Reuters,“We won’t accept this until the government understands that this belongs in a museum, not in public space. Because it is a shame.”Leopold’s descendant King Philippe expressed regret in a letter amid the protests, and as Congo celebrated 60 years of independence on June 30.“Our ...
Many articles in the US press have speculated at length in an attempt to define a new ideology called “Putinism.” The pieces serve as an attempt to fit Putin into an outdated Cold War narrative, as if some new ideology in the Russian Federation is playing the role that Marxism-Leninism once played in the Soviet Union, though the current Russian constitution forbids this. The notable leaders of history are rarely ideologues. History judges people mainly by what they achieve, not what they write or say. As Chinese President Xi Jinping recently put it: “The worth of any plan is in its ...
The book of evidence about ethnic cleansing and policy of genocide committed by the neo-Nazi Ustashi government in Croatia against its own citizens of the Serb nationality in August 1995. That was a third genocide against the Serbs committed by the Croats in the 20th century: 1. during the WWI; 2. during the WWII; 3. in the 1990s. Today, Croatia is almost totally ethnically cleanced from all non-Croats like Kosovo and Albania from all non-Albanians. During the WWII, around 700.000 Serbs were brutally killed by the Croats and Bosnian Muslims on the territory of the Independent State of Croatia.Read our ...
As the contemporary Corona virus hysteria narrative continues to collapse (here and here) another dubious narrative, launched a quarter of a century ago – Srebrenica genocide – comes to mind. The common thread of both narratives is that they have just enough genuine elements to provide a seemingly plausible foundation for a vastly exaggerated tale. The Covid-19 virus can endanger health, and even be lethal, to certain classes of the population, but how much more than that is it? In Srebrenica in July of 1995, about a thousand Muslim prisoners were executed by a rogue outfit of the Serb army. ...
In 2015 Bill Gates gave a talk titled “We’re Not Ready for the Next Epidemic” in which, in a remarkable exhibition of understated and uncannily accurate prescience, he reflected on the outbreak of Ebola virus and forecast worse to come. This amazing man told us that “As awful as this epidemic has been, the next one could be much worse. The world is simply not prepared to deal with a disease — an especially virulent flu, for example — that infects large numbers of people very quickly. Of all the things that could kill 10 million people or more, by ...
The statehood of Ukraine like Ukrainian ethnolinguistic identity is one of the most problematic research topics. Ukraine herself has, in addition, extremely artificial state borders from very historical and political points of view. Even the name of the country and nation is very unusual and even unnatural as the Slavonic term “Ukraine” means in English “borderland” while “Ukrainians” are simply “people from borderland”. A focal question, therefore, became: How the country with such a name can be independent as the term “borderland” politically simply means the end land (like the German “mark” from the time of the Frankish Kingdom) of ...
On 10 August 2016, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump accused president Barak Hussein Obama and Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton of co-founding the jihadist rebel organization ISIS (Islamic State) operating mainly in Syria and Iraq but with operative in many Middle Eastern countries and around the world. Trump used Obama’s full name to provoke a racist-xenophobic response from the public about the Arabic-sounding name rooted in East Africa. Immediately, critics insisted that Trump made outrageous and ignorant comments about complex foreign affairs matters he does not fully comprehend. The following day Trump clarified that he meant exactly what he said and ...
One of the West’s top points in condemning Vladimir Putin’s “regime” since 2007 has been his alleged suppression of democratic institutions, including an assault on media freedom and imposition of government-directed propaganda. This week, the accusation was repeated in a resolution of the European Parliament calling for stronger counter-measures in defense of European values against “information warfare” from Moscow. The charges — that Russian media are only an instrument of state propaganda directed at the domestic population to keep Russian citizens in line and at foreign audiences to sow dissent among Russia’s neighbors and within the European Union — are taken ...
“If the Nuremberg Laws were applied, then every post-war American President would have been hanged” Noam ChomskyEurasiaHenry Kissinger, one of the fundamental figures in creating and maintaining the US policy of global hegemony during the Cold War,[1] was quite clear and precise in his overviewing the issue of the American geopolitical position, national goals, and foreign policy. His remarks can be summarized in the following points:The US is an island off the shores of the large landmass of Eurasia. The resources and population of Eurasia far exceed the resources and population of the US.Any domination by any single state from Eurasia (either ...
The current Ukrainian crisis and, in fact, a civil war which started at the very end of 2013 are grounded in for decades lasting internal interregional antagonisms between the western and the eastern regions of Ukraine. The crisis is fully fueled by the Western governments which armed far-right “European” Kiev regime giving to it a comprehensive political, financial and diplomatic support for the policy of brutal Ukrainization and even Nazification of the whole country but primarily at the expense of the Russian-speaking population at Ukraine’s East. A similar example we experienced in “European” Croatia in the 1990s when the same ...
